Kellian Hockey 8U Summer Camp
"Learn to Love the Game" Skill Development
with Coach Ian
The Kellian Hockey 8U Skill Development summer camp is geared towards players who are entering 8U or who are currently playing at that level. With a low coach to camper ratio, each skater will receive a great deal of personal attention. The emphasis of the Elevate 8U summer camp is centered around overall skill development in skating and balance techniques, puck control, shooting and game awareness strategies.
The off-ice skill development includes teaching kids about their equipment, how to dress themselves (we will tie skates and buckle helmets), and offer instruction on how to manage their sticks (stick length, taping the blade and knob). We will also work with campers on appropriate behavior in the locker room and how to develop an understanding of team-work and positive sportsmanship.
A typical day at camp... drop your kids off for an off-ice stick handling clinic at 8:45 am. The morning ice time occurs from 10:00 - 11:00 am. The morning session focuses on core skating and puck control techniques. Skill development in Kellian hockey camps revolve around targeting select fundamental techniques that allow a player to transition into performing more advanced moves, increasing their ability to be more creative and effective. Then we break for lunch (not provided). After that, we get into our off-ice game awareness training. We will be engaging in various games and activities that develop a player's sense of "creating a plan" before he/she receives the puck. The second ice time goes from 1:45pm to 2:45pm. The focus in the afternoon ice session is about engaging in drills that further develop the morning techniques in competitive and non competitive small games or challenges. You can pick up your kids after 2:45pm.
The Kellian Hockey philosophy revolves around the idea that depth in fundamental technique encourages creativity and cooperative game play. We will work on:
1: Skating Fundamentals.
-
Starts and stops
-
Crossovers
-
Wide leg stance for offensive and defensive applications
2: Puck Control Fundamentals
-
Puck protection (Offensive and Defensive)
-
Open Ice skating
-
Passing and receiving the puck
3: Shooting
-
The 4 stages of taking a wrist shot
-
These stages create the foundation for proper shooting technique for all types of shots (wrist, snap and slap shots)
4: Team Play Fundamentals
-
Developing a player's ability to plan and use their teammates in game play.
We will be developing these skills in a fun and engaging way geared for the attention of a 7 or 8 year old player.
Full protective equipment is required. Jerseys are provided. Girls and Boys entering 8U or who are currently playing at that level.
