Kellian Hockey 8U Summer Camp
"Learn to Love the Game" Skill Development
with Coach Ian
The Kellian Hockey Elevate 8U Skill Development summer camp is designed for young players entering the 8U category or those currently participating at that level. With a focus on providing personalized attention, our low coach-to-camper ratio ensures that each participant receives ample individualized instruction. The primary objective of the Elevate 8U summer camp is to enhance overall skill development, encompassing key areas such as skating and balance techniques, puck control, shooting proficiency, and game awareness strategies.
Our off-ice skill development program covers essential topics such as equipment knowledge, teaching kids how to dress themselves (including tying skates and buckling helmets), and providing guidance on stick management (determining stick length, blade taping, and knob handling). Additionally, we work with campers to instill appropriate behavior in the locker room and foster an understanding of teamwork and positive sportsmanship.
A typical day at our camp begins with an off-ice stick handling clinic at 8:45 am, followed by on-ice activities from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, where we focus on core skating and puck control techniques. Our approach to skill development at Kellian Hockey revolves around targeting specific fundamental techniques that enable players to progress to more advanced maneuvers, thereby enhancing their capacity for creativity and effectiveness on the ice.
After a lunch break (please note that lunch is not provided), we delve into our off-ice game awareness training. This session involves various games and activities designed to develop a player's ability to strategize before receiving the puck. The afternoon ice session runs from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, focusing on drills that build upon the morning's techniques, incorporating both competitive and non-competitive small games and challenges. Parents can pick up their children after 2:45 pm.
The Kellian Hockey philosophy centers on the belief that a strong foundation in fundamental techniques fosters creativity and cooperative gameplay. During our camp, we concentrate on the following key areas:
